Siwelele were left frustrated after being held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Chippa United in Bloemfontein, despite dominating large spells of the encounter.
The hosts started on the front foot and almost took an early lead when Siviwe Magidigidi broke through on goal in the third minute but fired high and wide. Chippa responded through Nathan Idumba and Azola Matrose, both going close as the visitors looked dangerous from set-pieces and on transitions.
A physical first half produced three yellow cards – Idumba and Goodman Mosele for Chippa and Relebogile Mokhuoane for Siwelele – as the midfield battle intensified. Siwelele repeatedly threatened from corners, with Mokhuoane heading just wide and Gamphani Lungu sending an effort narrowly over the bar before the break.
The second half continued with Siwelele probing. Vincent Pule saw his goal-bound header saved by Dumisani Msibi, while late on Pogiso Sanoka nodded over from a promising position after a well-worked set piece. At the other end, Chippa substitutes Justice Figuareido and Thabang Malaoa carried a counter-attacking threat, but the visitors were largely content to protect their point.
Despite piling on pressure in the closing stages – and with the visitors forced into several defensive clearances – Siwelele could not find a way through, and the match ended 0–0.
The result leaves Siwelele sitting on 15 points, still looking over their shoulders, while Chippa United remain at the bottom with eight points but will be encouraged by a clean sheet and a hard-earned away draw.
