Bafana on Alert as Kaizer Chiefs Former Player Ngezana Limped Off for FCSB
Bafana Bafana have been dealt a potential setback after Siyabonga Ngezana picked up a knee injury while playing for FCSB in their Superliga clash against Dinamo București. The 28-year-old was forced off at half-time, raising concern with AFCON 2025 just days away.
Ngezana has been a pillar for FCSB since leaving Kaizer Chiefs in 2023, winning back-to-back league titles, two Super Cups, and earning spots in the Liga 1 Team of the Season twice. His consistent form has also made him a key figure for Hugo Broos’ national team setup.
FCSB general manager Mihai Stoica confirmed the knock but suggested it may not be serious: “His knee hurt, so he couldn’t continue. He went for therapy; we’ll see if he can play on Thursday.” FCSB face Feyenoord next in a crucial Europa Super League tie, but the defender remains doubtful.
Broos’ defensive options for AFCON include Mudau, Modiba, Sibisi, Mbokazi, Kabini and others, with Stellenbosch’s Thabo Moloisane on standby. If Ngezana does not recover in time, Moloisane could be drafted in for the tournament.
South Africa, who finished third at AFCON 2023, hope to challenge for the title again in Morocco—but Ngezana’s fitness will be closely monitored ahead of their opener.
