Hugo Broos Explains Thembinkosi Lorch Snub
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has once again dismissed the idea of recalling Thembinkosi Lorch, insisting the Wydad AC attacker offers nothing to his current squad.
Despite Lorch’s resurgence in Morocco — five goals and four assists already this season — Broos says recent form does not erase two years of inconsistency. The Belgian coach claims Lorch was “kicked out” at both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns after failing to perform, and even his first season at Wydad didn’t convince him.
Broos stressed that selection goes beyond statistics: he looks at qualities that fit the national team’s structure. His assessment of Lorch remains unchanged.
“For three months it’s Lorch, Lorch, Lorch… but did anyone watch him over the past two years?” said Broos. “When I evaluate him, I have to say he can’t help us. Finished.”
Lorch has made 28 appearances for Wydad since joining from Sundowns, contributing eight goals and four assists — numbers Broos acknowledges but says are not enough to reopen the door to Bafana Bafana.
