Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Masango Encouraged by Amakhosi’s Season

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mandla Masango has shared his view on Amakhosi’s progress this season, noting clear signs of improvement.

Masango, who played for Chiefs from 2007 to 2015 and was part of their last league-winning generation, believes the club is in a better position than in recent campaigns. Speaking to FARPost, the 36-year-old pointed out that Chiefs are at least competing this time around, unlike last season when they were far off the pace.

Chiefs currently sit fourth on the log, just four points behind leaders Orlando Pirates, keeping them within reach of the title race.

“I think the way they started compared to previous seasons, they started very well,” Masango said. “They are within touching distance of challenging for the league. This time last season, they were nowhere, so there is improvement.”

With Amakhosi pushing to stay in the top six, a top-eight finish now looks achievable. That would mark progress after two disappointing seasons, where Chiefs finished 10th in 2023/24 and ninth in 2024/25.
