Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for a squad refresh that will see both a rising academy talent and an experienced forward move on as the club reshapes for the future.
Young star’s unlucky setback
Among those earmarked for departure is 19-year-old Camrin Smit, a powerful teenage striker who burst onto the scene after joining the club’s U17 side in early 2023. Smit made an immediate impact at Naturena, registering five goals and five assists in just seven matches, quickly establishing himself as one of the academy’s standout prospects.
That momentum was cruelly halted by a serious Achilles injury that kept him sidelined for 13 months. Although he has recently returned to action—scoring twice on his comeback and impressing the technical team with his resilience—the club has opted to let him seek opportunities elsewhere.
Reports indicate Smit has been training with Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Midlands Wanderers, with a move to their academy now on the cards.
Veteran striker exits the picture
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Tashreeq Morris (31) is also expected to leave Naturena. The experienced striker has not made a single appearance in the current 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign, underlining that he no longer features in the club’s plans.
Clearing the decks
The dual exits signal a clear strategy from Chiefs: trim the squad, move on from players outside the first-team picture, and create room for a refreshed core. While Smit’s departure feels harsh given his promise and recovery, it reflects the difficult decisions involved in rebuilding.
