Feisal Salum Shines at AFCON as Kaizer Chiefs Transfer Talk Resurfaces
Feisal Salum’s stunning equaliser against Tunisia at AFCON 2025 did more than just send Tanzania into the Round of 16 for the first time in their history — it also revived a long-running transfer narrative that has closely followed the midfielder over the past year.
The 27-year-old, who has been repeatedly linked with Kaizer Chiefs, showcased exactly why his name continues to surface in Soweto transfer discussions. His powerful strike, assisted by Novatus Miroshi, secured a crucial 1–1 draw that placed Tanzania among the best third-placed finishers and booked them a knockout clash with hosts Morocco national football team on January 4.
Previous Reports: Chiefs Interest and Contract Twist
Back in September 2025, it was officially confirmed that Chiefs-linked Feisal Salum had signed a new contract with Azam FC, extending his stay until 2027. The announcement appeared to cool speculation at the time, with Azam moving decisively to secure their talisman amid interest from Chiefs, Simba SC and MC Alger.
However, months earlier in July, momentum around a possible move to Naturena had been building rapidly. Tanzania head coach Hemed Suleiman publicly praised Salum during an international window in South Africa, describing him as “the best midfielder in Tanzania at the moment” and insisting he had the quality to play for any top club.
That same period saw reports that Salum had met Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi and the club’s head of scouting Thembela Maliwa during a scouting visit to Tanzania. Nabi, who previously worked with Salum at Young Africans, is widely credited with redefining the midfielder’s role into a more attacking force — a transformation that has continued at Azam, where Salum produced four goals and 12 assists in a single domestic campaign.
Praise for Salum extended beyond Tanzania. Former Wydad Casablanca coach Rulani Mokwena described him as “one of the best on the continent”, highlighting both his footballing intelligence and character off the pitch.
AFCON Performance Reignites the Debate
Despite Azam previously insisting no formal offers had been received, Salum’s AFCON performances have once again placed him firmly under the continental spotlight. His display against Tunisia — combining composure, power and leadership — served as a reminder that while contracts may delay moves, quality inevitably keeps doors open.
For now, Tanzania march on in Morocco, and Feisal Salum’s name once again echoes beyond AFCON headlines — back into the familiar territory of Kaizer Chiefs transfer speculation, fuelled by performances that continue to justify the hype.
