Based on exclusive information from SABC Sport, Kaizer Chiefs are already laying the foundations to safeguard continuity in crucial areas of their squad, as part of proactive contract planning aimed at future seasons.
Among the players understood to be part of these internal discussions is goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, with the club keen to preserve stability in a position traditionally regarded as one of the most important at Naturena. Chiefs are believed to prefer early clarity rather than allowing uncertainty to creep into the goalkeeping department.
This approach comes with Petersen set to move into the final six months of his current contract, although the Soweto giants are still believed to hold an option they could activate later in the existing deal. Despite that safety net, the club’s intention appears to be centred on longer-term certainty rather than reactive decision-making.
Notably, Petersen only recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Glamour Boys by signing a two-year agreement that included a possible extension clause. However, with the season progressing quickly and planning already underway, discussions around his longer-term future are now understood to have resurfaced.
With sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr determined to avoid scenarios where key players are allowed to run down their contracts, there is believed to be an internal push for early resolution across several positions — with goalkeeping high on that list.
Chiefs are also expected to reach a decision on the future of out-of-favour Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari, who joined from TS Galaxy but has found game time limited in the current campaign. Any potential exit would further underline Petersen’s growing importance within the squad.
That status has already been reinforced by his recent appointment as club captain following a strong return to form. Highly regarded at Naturena even during periods when he was not a regular starter under former coach Nasreddine Nabi, Petersen is now widely viewed as a central figure in Chiefs’ present and future plans.
