Mamelodi Sundowns have officially confirmed the signing of Colombian striker Brayan León, putting an end to weeks of speculation surrounding one of the biggest moves of the January transfer window.

The announcement was made moments ago on the club’s official social media platforms, with Masandawana unveiling their latest recruit in trademark fashion.

The confirmation follows earlier reports that Sundowns had reached full agreement with Independiente Medellín for the striker’s transfer, in a deal believed to be worth $3.5 million (approximately R57 million) and including a sell-on clause. The move was first revealed by respected transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

León, 25, arrives in South Africa on the back of his most productive season yet, having scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in 40 appearances during the 2025 campaign. Over his professional career, he has registered 48 goals in 151 starts, underlining why head coach Miguel Cardoso pushed for a proven, physical presence to bolster Sundowns’ attack.

With the deal now official, attention turns to León’s integration into the squad — and whether Sundowns’ newest signing can live up to the hype as the champions chase further domestic and continental glory.
