Nedbank Cup Draw: Kaizer Chiefs Handed Tough Stellenbosch Test

Stellenbosch vs Chiefs Headlines Blockbuster Nedbank Cup Draw

The Nedbank Cup Round of 32 draw was conducted at the Nedbank Auditorium in Sandton on Thursday evening, officially ushering in another chapter of the Ke Yona Cup.

As defending champions, Kaizer Chiefs return with the aim of retaining the trophy they lifted last season to end a long silverware drought. For many others, the competition represents a final shot at honours in the 2024/25 campaign, while several amateur sides will dream of writing their own giant-killing stories.

The first ball out of the bowl produced a blockbuster tie, with Stellenbosch FC paired against the reigning champions.

Chiefs handed familiar but tricky test

Chiefs’ clash with Stellenbosch is a repeat of last season’s quarter-final, which the Soweto giants won 3–1 en route to the title. However, Stellies have already had the upper hand this season, having eliminated Chiefs from the Carling Knockout, adding an edge of revenge to the encounter.

Amakhosi will be eager to begin their title defence strongly and settle the score against a side that has proven to be an awkward opponent in recent meetings.

Pirates and Sundowns learn their fate

Elsewhere, Orlando Pirates, runners-up last season, were drawn away to lower-league outfit Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, while Mamelodi Sundowns will also travel for their opener against third-tier opposition Gomora United.

Sundowns, who were knocked out by Chiefs in last season’s semi-final, will be hoping for a smoother run this time around.
