Vilakazi Gets First Chippa United Win After Orbit College Victory
Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi finally tasted victory after guiding the Chilli Boys to a narrow 1–0 win over Orbit College at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on Saturday, January 24.
Vilakazi had endured a difficult start to life at Chippa, going five matches without a win since replacing Luc Eymael in October. However, his side began the new year on a positive note, with substitute Justice Figuareido scoring the decisive goal in the 60th minute.
The Eastern Cape outfit came into the encounter on the back of consecutive draws against Siwelele FC and Kaizer Chiefs to close out 2025, while the Mswenko Boyz were desperate to halt a four-match losing streak that had left them hovering just two points above the relegation zone in 14th place.
Orbit started brightly and threatened inside the opening minutes when Boy Madingwane forced a smart save from Dumisani Msibi in the sixth minute. Chippa responded through Azola Matrose, whose well-struck free-kick narrowly found the side-netting.
The hosts carved out their best chance just before halftime, as Lethabo Modimoeng tested Msibi with a tight-angle effort inside the box, but the Chippa goalkeeper stood firm.
Vilakazi introduced Figuareido at the start of the second half, a move that immediately added impetus to the visitors’ attack. Madingwane cut inside early on and unleashed a powerful shot that Sibusiso Nkomo managed to keep out.
The breakthrough arrived on the hour mark when Figuareido latched onto a long ball, muscled his way past two defenders, and calmly slotted home beyond Nkomo to put Chippa ahead.
Sinoxolo Kwayiba nearly doubled the advantage late in the game with a first-time effort from distance that again tested the Orbit goalkeeper. However, the solitary strike proved sufficient as Chippa claimed all three points and climbed off the bottom of the table.
