Foster Wonder-Strike Fires South Africa to AFCON 2025 Group B Summit
Bafana Bafana opened their AFCON 2025 campaign in style, edging Angola 2–1 in a pulsating Group B encounter in Marrakech to move top of the group.
South Africa struck first when Oswin Appollis capped a positive opening spell with a composed finish in the 21st minute. However, Angola’s growing pressure eventually told, as Show equalised from close range following a set-piece to send the sides into the break level at 1–1.
Despite enjoying superior possession, Bafana were repeatedly tested near their own box, with Angola creating the clearer chances. Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was instrumental, producing a string of crucial saves to keep South Africa alive during Angola’s strongest periods.
The decisive moment arrived in the 79th minute. Substitute Tshepang Moremi teed up Lyle Foster, who unleashed a stunning right-footed strike from outside the box into the top corner — a goal worthy of winning any match and a moment that ultimately separated the sides.
Angola threw everything forward in the closing stages, earning late corners and forcing desperate defending, but Bafana showed composure, game management and resilience to see out the win.
