Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kobamelo Kodisang and Mosa Lebusa Join Stellenbosch FC
Stellenbosch FC have taken a decisive step in reshaping their squad, with Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kobamelo Kodisang and Mosa Lebusa all reporting for training in the Cape Winelands as Gavin Hunt’s recruitment drive gathers momentum.
It has been confirmed that Stellenbosch have completed loan deals for Mabasa and Kodisang from Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively, with both players joining until the end of the season.
According to information received on Sunday morning, the duo trained with the squad for the first time earlier today, before being joined by Lebusa later in the session. Their arrivals take Stellies’ new signings to four, following the earlier announcement of Wayde Jooste.
The incoming trio bring significant experience. Mabasa is a proven Betway Premiership goalscorer and the Golden Boot winner in the 2023/24 season, while Kodisang boasts valuable European experience, having played a key role in Moreirense FC’s promotion to Portugal’s top flight.
Stellenbosch will next turn their focus to a tough league assignment against Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Fans React: Kaizer Chiefs Beware, and Nedbank Cup nerves
The news sparked a flood of reaction across social media, with many supporters praising Hunt’s pulling power.
“Gavin Hunt will always have pull,” posted one fan, while another added: “He’s getting the tools – now he must show he can use them.”
Others believe the signings could transform Stellenbosch into genuine contenders:
“They’re about to cook,” read one comment, with another claiming, “This is good for the league – we need a strong Stellies side.”
Unsurprisingly, attention quickly shifted to the looming Nedbank Cup clash with Kaizer Chiefs, as rival supporters speculated on the impact Mabasa could have.
“Mabasa is knocking out Chiefs,” said one confident fan, while another warned: “If Hunt loses with these players in the Nedbank, he must retire.”
Not everyone was convinced. Some questioned whether the new direction fits the club’s long-standing philosophy of youth development, while sceptics dismissed the signings as short-term fixes or even “clickbait”.
The bigger picture
What is clear is that Stellenbosch are signalling intent. With experienced reinforcements now in place, the second half of the season — and particularly the Nedbank Cup — will provide the first real test of Gavin Hunt’s evolving project in the Cape Winelands.
