Less Than a Year Later, Chiefs’ R16m Sale Faces Exit at New Club
Libyan heavyweights Al Ittihad are reportedly considering cutting ties with former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, less than a year after signing him.
Ditlhokwe, one of Amakhosi’s priciest departures, joined the Tripoli-based club in February 2025 for around €810,000 (about R16 million) and penned a deal running until August 2027. However, his stay in North Africa may be shorter than expected.
Reports from AfricaFoot suggest Al Ittihad are planning a clear-out of several foreign players as they look to make room for new signings. Ditlhokwe is believed to be among those under review, with the club reportedly unconvinced they have seen sufficient return on their investment.
The 27-year-old Botswana international has featured 15 times for Al Ittihad this season, finding the net once, according to Flashscore.
Despite the uncertainty at club level, Ditlhokwe has been handed a major international boost. He has been named in Botswana’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Zebras will compete in Group D against Senegal, DR Congo and Benin.
