Dobsonville Stadium Confirmed as Venue for Bafana Bafana’s AFCON Warm-Up Clash Against Ghana
SAFA has officially announced that Bafana Bafana will face Ghana in a high-profile friendly at Dobsonville Stadium on 16 December, giving Hugo Broos’ men one final test before jetting off to Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bafana assembled at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria this week as preparations intensify for the continental showpiece. After securing a memorable bronze medal at AFCON 2023 in the Ivory Coast, South Africa are targeting an even stronger finish this time around.
Broos Builds for a Bigger Challenge
Head coach Hugo Broos has selected a powerful squad geared toward competing with Africa’s elite. Drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe, Bafana know they will need sharpness and cohesion from the opening whistle in Morocco.
Their final tune-up comes in the form of Ghana’s Black Stars—one of the continent’s traditional heavyweights—making this friendly a valuable measuring tool for Broos and his technical team.
SAFA Confirms: Bafana vs Ghana Set for Soweto
In a statement released on their website, SAFA confirmed:
“Bafana Bafana will host Ghana at the Dobsonville Stadium in their final match before departure to the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this month.”
The national team will square off against Ghana on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, before departing for Morocco the next day.
Broos welcomed the fixture, noting that unlike in the previous AFCON—where South Africa surprised several opponents—teams will come fully prepared this time.
“We won’t have the element of surprise like in Côte d’Ivoire,” Broos cautioned. “Our opponents will have studied us well.”
