Kaizer Chiefs Linked to Pirates, Sundowns Attackers, But No Rush at Naturena

Chiefs Linked to Big Names as Contract Talks Take Back Seat

Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with attacking options from both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, yet there is no sense of urgency behind the scenes at Naturena as the club takes a measured approach to squad planning.

Mabasa on Chiefs’ radar

Chiefs’ interest in Pirates forward Tshegofatso Mabasa has resurfaced, with reports suggesting the 29-year-old could be on the move at the end of the season. Mabasa is eligible to sign a pre-contract during the January window, and speculation has intensified amid indications that he may depart Mayfair.

A potential exit for Tashreeq Morris could create room in Amakhosi’s attack — making Mabasa, or a similar profile, a realistic option.

Chiefs revisit Maseko interest?

Meanwhile, Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko is reportedly available, likely on loan, as he seeks regular minutes after a frustrating spell at Chloorkop. The 22-year-old has logged just 127 minutes across seven appearances this season, a sharp contrast to his earlier rise.

Maseko’s lack of game time has also cost him his place in the national setup under Hugo Broos, leaving him eager for a move that could reignite both his club form and Bafana Bafana prospects. Chiefs scouts previously attempted to lure him to Naturena, and a renewed push cannot be ruled out should space open up in the squad.

Fans weigh in

Supporters are split on which attacker would best suit Amakhosi:

“I THINK BOTH OF THEM CAN CONTRIBUTE A LOT IN OUR TEAM,” wrote one fan.

“I would definitely sign Mabasa — I don’t see anything special about Maseko,” argued another.

Others feel both could add value if the club reshapes its frontline.

No panic over contracts

Despite the transfer chatter, Chiefs insiders insist there is no rush — either in the market or over expiring deals. Several senior players are nearing the final months of their contracts, including Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, Dillan Solomons, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, and Pule Mmodi.

A source close to the club says Chiefs are comfortable assessing performances before committing:

“There’s no hurry. We’re not scared to lose anyone. The club will decide at the end of the season who is needed.”

The same source highlighted the importance of Gaston Sirino, praising his influence and pedigree, noting his big-game quality despite the need for end-of-season evaluation.
