Mamelodi Sundowns tracking Bolivian midfielder Ramiro Vaca again

Despite new signings, Sundowns eye Ramiro Vaca swoop

Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have once again turned their attention to Club Bolívar playmaker Ramiro Vaca, reigniting a long-standing interest in the Bolivian international.

Sundowns first tracked Vaca back in 2021, but a move never came to fruition as the Tshwane giants opted to explore alternative South American options at the time. The 26-year-old has remained on their radar ever since, and fresh talks are now believed to be under consideration.

Vaca was close to securing a high-profile switch to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club earlier this year, only for the deal to collapse after the Casablanca outfit ran out of available foreign player slots. That development has reopened the door for other suitors, with Sundowns now firmly back in the picture.

Sources indicate that interest is not limited to South Africa, with clubs from Major League Soccer and Europe also monitoring the situation. Bolívar are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of $2 million (approximately R33 million).

Highly versatile, Vaca is capable of operating as a traditional No.10, on the left flank or in central midfield. He earned his senior Bolivia debut at just 17 and has enjoyed a productive 2025 campaign, registering five goals and seven assists in 12 appearances across competitions.

Despite already bolstering their squad with Nuno Santos and Miguel Reisinho, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has made it clear that continuous reinforcement remains part of the club’s strategy.

However, any potential move comes with a major caveat. Vaca has not featured in competitive action since May, as he is currently serving a doping suspension after testing positive for a banned substance—an issue that could yet influence how this transfer saga unfolds.
