Sundowns Star Mokoena Going Nowhere, Says Agent
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has been linked with a potential move to Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly following his standout performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mokoena was one of the brighter performers for Bafana Bafana in Morocco, where Hugo Broos’ side reached the Round of 16 before bowing out to Cameroon. His strong showing at AFCON, combined with his consistent displays for Mamelodi Sundowns, sparked reports that Al Ahly were monitoring him as a possible successor to Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng, whose future in Cairo remains uncertain.
Agent plays down speculation
Despite the growing rumours, Mokoena’s agent, Glyn Binkin, has poured cold water on suggestions of an imminent move.
“We have not received any contact whatsoever from Al Ahly regarding signing Mokoena,” Binkin told Newzroom.
“He is still under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, having renewed his deal last year.”
The midfielder is contracted to the Tshwane giants until 2029, reinforcing Sundowns’ strong negotiating position amid any external interest.
Sundowns close in on Ndamane
While talk around Mokoena continues, Sundowns are believed to be edging closer to a defensive addition. Reports indicate that TS Galaxy centre-back Khulumani Ndamane is on the brink of completing a move to Chloorkop.
According to SoccerBeat, Ndamane has already bid farewell to his teammates at TS Galaxy and is expected to be unveiled soon after months of speculation. The former Kaizer Chiefs youth product would become Sundowns’ second signing of the January window.
The Brazilians have already made headlines this month after reportedly agreeing to a R65 million deal for Colombian striker Brayan Leon, underlining their intent to further strengthen an already formidable squad.
