Orlando Pirates Academy Player Leaves, Lined Up for Sundowns Test

Pirates Release Forward Who Could Debut Sundowns Match

Various Mzansi football news sources have  confirmed that former Orlando Pirates academy striker Katlego Cwinyane has joined Orbit College on a free transfer ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

The 26-year-old parted ways with the Soweto giants by mutual agreement after struggling for regular minutes, bringing an end to a stint that saw him promoted to Pirates’ first team during the 2020/21 campaign but unable to cement a long-term role.

In search of game time, Cwinyane spent much of his Pirates tenure out on loan, with his most notable impact coming at Sekhukhune United, where he played a key role in the club’s automatic promotion from the second tier in 2021.

Last season, the forward turned out for Orbit College on loan and again proved decisive in a promotion push, contributing four goals and three assists in 17 appearances. However, injury ruled him out of the PSL Promotion/Relegation playoffs.

According to Foot Africa Orbit have now moved swiftly to secure his services permanently, setting up a reunion with head coach Pogiso Makhoye at the Mswenko Boys. Sources indicate that the newly promoted side beat off competition from fellow top-flight outfit AmaZulu FC to land the striker, affectionately known as ‘Kuruman’.

Attention will now turn to whether Cwinyane makes his competitive debut when Orbit College open their top-flight campaign against champions Mamelodi Sundowns on 20 January 2026.
